Girls Varsity Volleyball · North closes conference play with win at Brush

North Volleyball

North generated some momentum for the upcoming Western Reserve Conference tournament with a 3-0 win at Brush on Tuesday.

The Rangers dominated the match 25-12, 25-12, 25-8 to improve to 12-6 overall and 4-3 in league play.

“We’ve really been on a roll lately between games and practices,” said North coach Samantha Muzic. “Even our losses have been points of emphasis for our season.”

North has now won three of its last four matches with the loss coming in the championship round of the Perry tournament on Saturday.

The Rangers closed out the league portion of its schedule in impressive fashion.

“Today, all 15 girls played a huge role and contributed to the win,” Muzic said. “We had a couple of girls step up in some key roles and they competed and worked hard and it worked well for us. We’ve really stressed in practice how all 15 roles are important and they saw that happen today. I’m really excited to see how we compete in the conference tournament with the momentum and work ethic we’ve had these past couple of weeks.”

Taylor Valaitis led the Rangers with 20 assists and six aces. Jill Borthwick contributed with 14 kills and six digs and Lindsey Mausser finished with 11 kills and six blocks.

“It was very important for us to come into the game with a lot of energy and work together before we go into the tournament,” Valaitis said. “Our offense started from the back row and they did a good job making it easy for me to set my hitters up.”

North opens the WRC tournament on Thursday. Pairings have not yet been released.
