Girls Varsity Basketball · Carter records 1,000th point in North’s win at Chardon

Abby Carter scored a game-high 19 points in North’s 65-28 win at Chardon on Wednesday but it was a third-quarter 3-pointer that drew most of the attention.

With that long-range shot, Carter recorded the 1,000th point of her high school career.

“Becoming part of the 1K club is definitely an exciting accomplishment,” Carter said. “It wasn’t possible without my teammates, coaches, and my family’s support, so all of the credit goes to them.”

Carter also pulled down two rebounds to go with three steals and a pair of assists in the win.

Despite reaching the milestone, Carter remains focused on helping the Rangers return to the regional tournament and hopefully beyond.

“There’s going to be a time in the future that I’ll be able to look back and reminisce on all the good times but for now I’m trying to stay in the moment,” she said.

North jumped out to a 21-4 first quarter lead and never let up.

“We got hit pretty good to start that Mayfield game early and we talked about coming out and setting the tone defensively,” North coach Paul Fore said. “I know Chardon is down a couple guys but that’s still a varsity basketball team out there. Keeping them to four in that first quarter I think showed how locked in the girls were.”
Destiny Leo added 17 points for the Rangers, who improved to 16-3 overall and 11-0 in the Western Reserve Conference.

The Rangers need just one to clinch a share of the WRC title for the third straight season.

Caitlyn Goodrich and Lexi Paros-Gaser led Chardon with six points each.
